Personality & Traits
General Overview | Relaari is quiet and soft-spoken, but is almost never entirely honest, even about minor things. Having matured in an atmosphere of ffear, she is liberal with the truth, only saying whatis important and keeping almost everything about herself to herself. She can be a bit jumpy and is not a good person to surprise, but she is generally amiable and knows how to take a joke – even at her own expense. She is a bit sarcastic, but is rarely openly hostile and tries hard to be sociable, although she will never be the life of the party. She has a lot of anger that she is working through, but is able to control it through meditation and combat training. |
|
Strengths & Weaknesses | A dedicated officer, Relaari is intelligent and efficient, working hard to overcome her own weaknesses and to get the job done. She is a good pilot and can hold her own in a fight but has been criticized for taking unnecessary risks. A born leader, she is a natural at making decisions quickly and doesn’t shy from the tough choices. This ability leads to one of her most glaring weaknesses – a difficulty with empathy. Although capable and pleasant in social situations, she has trouble really connecting with and trusting people. She has a dark side that she works hard not to succumb to. She is very private and can be unnecessarily dishonest and manipulative. Despite early trouble with authority, she has managed to control her rebellious tendencies. |
|
Ambitions | She would like to command a starship and to spend her life defending the Federation. Her ultimate goal is to completely master her violent side. She would like to have children one day but knows that she has a lot to work through before that can happen. | |
Hobbies & Interests | Outside of her work she has few serious hobbies. While her art is still an important part of her life, it was not something that the Academy allowed much time for and has fallen to the wayside. She is extremely physically active and has trained in a number of human and alien martial arts – even competing in and winning several championships. She is equally interested in piloting and when she isn’t working, studies and runs flight simulations. While at the Academy she was introduced to the cinema of ancient Earth and enjoys specifically the pulp horror genre. She has been working on a holonovel based on the genre for a number of years. While living on Earth, she became interested in Vulcan meditation and uses it extensively. When socialising, she enjoys chess, billiards and poker, but is just as happy having a few drinks. |

Personal History | Very little is officially known about Relaari\'s early life. Born under the dictatorship of the Regent of Palamar, her life was thrown into chaos with his assasination and she fled her home planet as a young child. Whether or not she was accompanied by any family members is unclear but she arrived on Farius as a young adolescent and spent her first few years on the streets. At fourteen she was taken under the wing of a minor member of the Orion Syndicate, who has it in mind to making the blossoming young woman a member of the oldest profession. It quickly became apparent that her talent lay in other areas and he began training her as a thief and con artist. However she quickly grew beyond him and while he remained her official superior, by sixteen she began recieving far more dangerous and deadly assignments. This was a miserable time in Relaari’s life, consumed by impotent anger and spurred on by a constantly changing cast of criminals. Not realising that this was not the only way to live, she almost reveled in her capacity for cruelty while blocking out her own pain. When an undercover Starfleet officer, Abhi Singh befriended her and began turning her away from the organisation, she had trouble trusting him. After she began questioning the syndicate, they responded with hostility, threatening her with abandonment and execution, and she was convinced that Mr. Singh was one of the few real friends she had. Finally convincing her that she was bound to come to the same end as so many others, at seventeen he smuggled her onto Earth where the Federation provided her with amnesty and a new identity. The officer’s family took her in and Relaari began the process of adjusting to a new life. Almost at once she decided that she wanted to join Starfleet and work to defend the people who had rescued her from her former life. She also turned to art and discovered Vulcan meditation, using it to help her deal with the things she had seen and done. Still a driven and willful young woman, Lt. Singh supported her application to the Academy and at nineteen Relaari was admitted. Although struggling at first with taking orders from anyone, Relaari found the order and discipline refreshing and began to form real friendships. Excelling in combat and flight training, she decided to focus on a career in Security, still dreaming of commanding her own ship one day. |
