Mission: Episode 1.2 - "A House Divided"
Location: USS Pandora, Chief Operations Officer's Office
Timeline: Day 15, 0930 hours

Following her meeting with Samuel, Khloe (NPC) headed back to her temporary office. It was a bit odd to think that not that long ago, someone else was using this office as the actual Operations Department Head. But for now, it was her responsibility - one she didn't really mind, truth be told. Khloe was more than happy to step into a leadership role and help out.

As she walked into the office, Khloe moved around the desk to take a seat. Her fingers quickly typed in her passcode, unlocking the terminal. Time to get to work.

Khloe navigated through the Operations software and opened up the allocation screen. Her eyes moved down the screen slowly, trying to decide which systems could be temporarily moved to a lower allocation level. The holodecks seemed to be taking up a good bit of resources, which seemed a bit odd to her.

After looking through the current resource allocations, Khloe eventually settled on decreasing the resources allocated to the holodecks and lighting in certain areas. With the lighting, she didn't simply turn out the lights entirely - instead she dimmed them in areas that weren't being used much or that weren't vital.

Between the two, it bought her a fair amount of resources to re-allocate to the sensors. Khloe dragged sensor controls up to a higher priority level on the allocation screen and moved the additional resources to them. She quickly ran a consistency check to confirm that the new set-up wouldn't have any negative effects, and then confirmed the change.

Now it was time to find some of the Science Officers...

[Science Lab, 1000]

Khloe walked into the Science Lab and looked around. The room was mostly empty, which she was slightly surprised about. But perhaps the other officers were in one of the other labs. She walked over to the lone officer in the room, a Trill. "Hello?"

Holding up a finger, Isela (NPC) finished the paragraph she'd been reading before looking up at the other woman. Seeing the woman in Services gold, Isela thought she recognized her...was it the woman who had taken over in Operations? Realizing the other woman was likely waiting for her to respond, Isela blushed slightly, "What can I do for you, ma'am?"

Smiling, Khloe replied, "I'm Lieutenant JG Khloe Dovil...Acting Chief Operations Officer. I'm sorry to disturb you, I'm sure you have things to do."

"It's alright," Isela said. "I'm Ensign Isela Vin, just a Science Officer here. I'm afraid the Chief and Assistant Chief aren't here at the moment... The Assistant Chief and I were working on some research and she went to tell the Chief about it. Is there something I can help you with?"

"Well, I just re-allocated some resources to your sensors... I'm not sure if you're aware, but we've been having some problems with Communications and the Transporter systems. I spoke with the Chief Engineer and we thought that perhaps there was something in the planet's atmosphere that's interfering with our systems. My thought was that perhaps the geological or meteorological issues could have a negative effect on the atmosphere - maybe even leading to a buildup of particles," the Betazoid explained. "I'm certainly not a scientist, so I don't know exactly how feasible those ideas are, but..."

Isela paused, considering the ideas. "We have been detecting severe geological and meteorological disturbances. Depending on the circumstances, it is plausible, but we'd have to do some more in depth scans. But I'm guessing you realize that, since you gave us more resources." She was fairly impressed, the theory that Khloe had come up with was a good one. And if they could solve it...all the better.

Nodding, Khloe responded, "Lieutenant Bishop and I would certainly appreciate it if you could start the scans and let us know the results once they're in. I know that with an in-depth scan we won't get results right away, but when you have them, any information you get could help us."

"I'll get it started right away, ma'am," Isabel replied with a grin. "Anything else I can do for you?"

"Just get me the results when they're ready," she said. "And thank you," Khloe added, offering the young Trill a smile as she headed for the door.

Isela returned the smile, "You're welcome." She watched Khloe leave for a moment before turning back to her console. Not wanting to bog down the console she was using for research, Isela moved to a different console to start the scans. The Trill smiled to herself; something about Khloe made her feel more at ease, despite the various personalities coursing through her. Perhaps she should try to befriend the woman...but that was something for later. For now, there were still quite a few puzzles to solve.
