Mission:
Episode 1.3 - "The Time of Trial"
Location: Iluvar's Quarters, USS Pandora
Timeline: Mission Day 06, 1328
ON: [[Corridor, USS Pandora, Mission Day 06, 1328]]
The past few days had gone by slowly for Korina (NPC), though probably not as slowly as it had seemed for the young man she was escorting. The Trill certainly didn't mind the assignment; it was her duty to watch out for all crewmembers of the Pandora after all and she felt it was all the more important to ensure that in this case, considering the circumstances. She'd given updates to Awen on a daily basis, not that a whole lot had occurred. Now though, it was over and they were finally back on the Pandora.
Aris (PNPC) walked slowly down the corridor alongside the lieutenant. In his hands, he carried a dull-gray data storage node whose indicator blinked on and off slowly. It had been four days since the officers from Starfleet Security had showed up at his and Iluvar's quarters to take him and Peter into custody. He still didn't really know why they had been so insistent about getting the whole thing done before Iluvar had come back, but it didn't really matter anymore. They were back aboard the Pandora...they were back home.
Korina glanced over at Aris, "Are you glad to be back?" Considering where he'd been, she was rather sure that he would be, but it was polite to ask. She glanced over at him as they walked through the corridor.
"Yeah," Aris replied.
The Trill watched the boy for several moments before saying, "I am sorry you had to go through that, Aris. It certainly wasn't fair to you or Peter." Korina didn't think it had been actually necessary either - it was just a tactic that the prosecution used to try to cause trouble. The way they went about it was rather low too, but it was not her place to say such things in front of him.
Aris didn't really know quite what to say in response to the lieutenant's statement. None of it had been her fault and she had stayed with them the entire time to make sure that nothing happened. As far as he was concerned, she had made things at least a little better.
They walked in silence for a few minutes until they reached Iluvar's quarters. "Here we are," Korina said, giving Aris a reassuring smile as she rang the doorchime.
[[Iluvar's Quarters]]
Iluvar looked up from the book he was reading at the intruding ping of the doorchime. He had not been expecting anyone to visit, especially not so soon after the conclusion of the proceedings. The crew seemed to be giving him plenty of time to digest the results of the inquiry and, for that, he had been somewhat grateful.
"Enter," he called.
Hearing Iluvar's voice, Korina nodded to Aris, allowing him to enter first. She followed him in, then moved to stand before Iluvar, "Good afternoon, sir. They released Aris and Peter just a short time ago, so I escorted them here for you."
"Thank you, lieutenant," Iluvar said as he slowly set aside his book. He certainly did not agree with Captain Mercer's (NPC) decision to order Aris and Peter remanded to the custody of Starfleet Security. At the same time, it had heartened him somewhat to know that the lieutenant had given of her time to stay with them throughout the course of these events. What's done was done, however, and as he pushed these thoughts from his mind, his attention turned to where Aris stood just inside the doorway.
Aris had thought he'd been doing a good job of putting on a brave face, even though he'd never really been certain what was coming next. It was something he had gotten pretty good at growing up. His father would always disappear for days or weeks at a time, leaving Aris to deal with things pretty much on his own. Sure, he still had the Ibanya family and the rest of the village, but growing up was different when one's father wasn't really in the picture.
Yet, when Aris crossed the threshold into the room that he shared with Iluvar, he could tell that something was different. It was a feeling that he couldn't ever remember having before...at least, not with such intensity. He had missed being aboard the Pandora, visiting the arboretum, and seeing the members of the crew. Most of all, he had missed Iluvar. Ever since he had been brought into this universe aboard the Tethys, Iluvar had treated him with nothing but the utmost care and respect. Aris had never realized just how much he had grown accustomed to it until it had been gone.
Before he even realized what he was doing, Aris had crossed the short distance between where he stood and Iluvar. He reached out and wrapped his arms around the man in an unexpected hug.
Slightly surprised, Iluvar slowly returned Aris' display of affection. He had not been expecting to see such a reaction from the young man, even with how well their relationship had developed since he had assumed custody for Aris. It was comforting, after everything that had happened, to receive such a gift.
Not wanting to interrupt the moment, Korina stood silently out of the way. She smiled slightly at the reunion and waited for their embrace to end before catching Iluvar's eye and giving him a brief nod. With that, the Trill turned and quietly left Iluvar's quarters.
