Matt yawned and slipped out of the top bunk of the small bedroom. The one thing he liked about his sleeping arrangement was that his room mate was on the night shift, meaning that Matt had plenty of time in the morning to get ready without having to worry about another person in the room with him. He had only actually met his room mate a small handful of times due to how their schedules conflicted.
Walking through the door to the restroom Matt and his room mate shared with two other ensigns, he set a clean uniform on the counter and walked into the sonic shower. "Computer, activate sonic shower, pulse setting five-gamma." he ordered. As the shower emitters began to hum, Matt leaned against the wall and allowed the pulsed waves to wash over him. "Computer, activate sonic shower monitor, FNS feed."
A moment later the nearby screen turned on and an older looking Bolian female appeared, smiling. "Good morning and thank you for tuning in to Federation News Service." she said, continuing to smile. "In top news of the day, several Dominion envoys have arrived at Deep Space Nine for..."
Before the Bolian had a chance to finish her sentence, a single beep sounded from the speaker and the federation symbol appeared on the screen. =^=Incoming transmission from Starfleet Command, San Francisco Shipyards for Ensign Matthew Lessly.=^=
Matt looked up slightly. He had a feeling that the call would be coming, but he had hoped he could make it through his shower before it came in. Manually turning the shower off, Matt began to get dressed. "Computer, answer call, audio only, authorization Lessly two-two-delta-five."
A beep was heard and Matt smiled, knowing full well who was on the other end even without visual. "Hey John," he said, slipping his undershirt on, "sorry about the audio, I'm not quite ready yet."
=^=Heh.=^= John (NPC) laughed slightly. =^=I had a feeling. You're always slow getting out of bed.=^=
Matt rolled his eyes and checked the mirror to ensure his pip was on just right before grabbing his uniform jacket and walking out to the small living area. "Yeah, yeah." he responded. "How's things at the shipyards?"
=^=Meh... Same as always. Half the ships are at least three weeks behind because we had to ground two thirds of the workbees. Somebody at the solar watch station forgot to send out the notice that a solar flare was coming our way and the magnetic disturbance knocked out the eps regulators.=^=
"Ouch." Matt said, knowing how much it was probably bugging John. "Hey, I'm ready, so we can talk face to face now."
A moment later the face of a young man in a red uniform appeared on the screen. "There you are. I was beginning to think you didn't want to see me." he said.
Matt sighed and shook his head. "We've been assigned to look into some attacks out here in the Black Cluster. I don't know what it is, but this place gives me the creeps."
"It's probably just the difference the cluster makes in your sleeping patterns." John responded. "But... attacks. I thought the Breen had cleared out of there over a year ago."
Shrugging, Matt shook his head. "That's what a lot of people thought. We're not sure it's the Breen though. It doesn't seem to match their style."
As John was about to say something, the comm badge on Matt's desk chirped. "Fransen to Lessly. Could you meet me in Science lab one?"
Matt gave a look of depression towards John before tapping his comm badge and saying, "I'll be up in a few minutes. Just getting ready for my regular shift."
"I'm sorry, John." Matt said. "Once I get the chance, I'll call you back... oh, and I like your new hair." he said, smiling.
John returned the smile. "I'll talk to you later." he said, before cutting the transmission.
