Operation Ten-Go Wave 1

Posted on Sat Apr 9th, 2011 @ 8:23am by Ensign Bok

Mission: Episode 2.1 - "Unanswered Questions"
Location: Holodeck

The flight simulator added a new level to the standard holodeck. Each member of his team essentially saw the battle from the inside of their own cockpit. There were even simulated ships manned by a holo-pilot. Bok was currently in an F6F Hellcat fighter squadron which was working off the location of the last reported position of the enemy ships as given by a which had been spotted recently by some Cataline PBY scout planes. Adm. Ito's fleet had been going westerly before turning south after being spotted. They did not know that American submarines had spotted them earlier as they passed through the Bundo Strait. By dawn the next day the Japanese task force had cleared the Osumi Peninsula at the south end of Kyushu.

The Japanese had been right where they were expected to be. After spotting the PBYs the Japanese had launched a wave of 100 Kamikaze who were searching for the American fleet. Bok's mission for these ships had been to clear the skies over the enemy fleet. Tellarite eyesight was not that great from a distance. His plane had been specially treated to show him the battle as a human would see it. He spotted an enemy squadron of fighters beneath them.

"Enemy two o'clock low," he announced over his comm system. "Let's take them out."

The squadron dove at the unsuspecting Zeros. He opened up fire watching the tracers speed away. The secret was not to fire where the planes were, but to lead them where they would be when the bullets got to them. Bok missed but some of his crew had downed some zekes which had gone down in flames. He wanted to give congrats to his crew but there was still much to do.

The Hellcat's climbed again to keep the advantage of height over the zeros. They circled and again found enemy to pounce upon. Again Bok missed but enough of the enemy were grounded to limit their outcome on the battle. Besides the bombers and torpedo bombers were on their way. It was on to wave two.
