Mission: Episode 2.2 - "Resistance"
Location: Noventum's Office, USS Orlando
Timeline: Mission Day 01

ON [[Noventum's Office, USS Orlando, MD-01]]

Yehonathan made his way to Mr. Noventum's office after he'd finally had enough of pouring through file after file on his terminal. There were mountains of data but he hadn't really learned anything so far that he didn't already know.

He hoped that speaking with a fellow member of intelligence would shed some light on the situation at hand. He knew he was no longer a member of the intelligence community but being a diplomat required a knowledge of things that your average person was not inclined to know.

He stopped outside the door to Mr. Noventum's office and straightened his uniform, then pressed the call button next to the door.

Caleb was surprised to find out on the new Orlando he not only didn't have to fight just to get a work station, he had his own office. That would make it much easier for him to deal with classified info without worrying who might be looking over his should, plus now he could still be on the bridge when the admiral needed advise instantaneously.

He was surprised that someone had come to visit him at his new office. "Come," he announced.

Yehonathan walked through the door and came to a stop in front of Mr. Noventum's desk as the doors swooshed shut behind him.

"Lt. (JG) Noventum, I'm Ensign Yehonathan Aharonov the new Chief Diplomatic Officer for the ship. I was hoping that I could pick your brain a bit about the area we'll be patrolling."

"I haven't been informed yet where we are going Mr. Aharonov. As far as I'm aware we will be putting the new ship through her paces," Caleb admitted. "I'm curious though what information I could give you. As diplomatic officer I would assume you're interested from a political prospective."

Yehonathan nodded, "Yes, but you see I also come from an intelligence background. Any additional information that you could provide me with about our previous or current interaction with the Romulans would make give me an idea of what I have to look forward to."

"I'm afraid I wasn't aware that my services would be put into effect as quickly as they could possibly be. I've been going through the files on my terminal but," Yehonathan paused and sighed slightly, "there's much more there than I expected. On top of that, to say it's lacking in useful information is to be kind. The 'official' files are very limited in the actually information that they provide about our interactions with the Romulans."

Caleb was starting to feel threatened. The new Orlando had a Strategic Operations officer which was usually starbase code for intel and now a diplomatic officer with a background in intelligence. When he had first come aboard the Orlando he had to get over the notion that he was just a spook. It took time to insert himself as a trusted member of the team. "That sort of information would be need to know basis only," Lt. JG Noventum responded in the usual jargon that intelligence gave.

Yehonathan raised an eyebrow. He had not expected such a response from the Intelligence officer. Just the same, if he wanted to play hardball Yehonathan could do that, even though he preferred not to.

"And I need to know but if you're not willing to provide assistance I have other channels that I can go to." He sighed, "All I'm trying to do is get a working relationship going here and establish some communication between the diplomatic and intelligence entities on this ship but if you're unwilling to cooperate, well I have ways of getting what I need that might be frowned upon but at the same time are on the up and up."

Caleb realized he was being unreasonable. He was like a dog barking at anyone who came near his yard. "I'm sorry," he admitted. "We got off on the wrong foot. We are a team here and I can certainly help you with information that will assist you on your job. Its just that when I came aboard I felt like an outsider. People don't trust intelligence personnel. They believe them to be loose cannons. All I saw was someone trying to step in on my territory. Maybe I was being a bit paranoid. Of course, my father always said that you're not paranoid if they really are out to get you."

"You don't have to explain it to me. I was a spook once too, granted mostly in offices, but a spook none the less." Yehonathan smiled at Noventum, trying to easy the tension that could be cut like a knife in the room at the moment. "Now, why don't we begin again. A general overview would be nice. Preferably one without a heavy quotient of editing to make it more palatable to politicos."
