We've Located...the Borg

Posted on Tue May 10th, 2011 @ 2:46pm by Vice Admiral Iluvar & Vice Admiral Quinn Androski

Mission: Episode 2.2 - "Resistance"
Location: Ready Room, USS Orlando & Ready Room, USS Pandora
Timeline: Mission Day 03, 1015 hours

ON: [[Ready room, USS Orlando, MD 03, 1015 hours]]

Quinn sipped his coffee as he read through the PADD propped up on his desk. A new report out of Starbase 10 reporting that three more relief ships had crossed over into Romulan space and twenty more Klingon ships had arrived on the Romulan border, and there had been a total of seven reported raids within Romulan space in the last three days.

Sighing, at the last of the report, Quinn looked up at Walter (NPC). "Pull the Rhode Island, Denmark, and Theseus from their current assignments and have them marshal at Starbase 24." he said, typing commands into the PADD and handing it over to the young yeoman. "Also have Lieutenant Noventum come meet with me."

Walter nodded. "Of course, Admiral. I'll do that at once, if there's nothing more."

Quinn shook his head. "That's all for now, Walter. Thank you."

The screen went dark as the secure connection between the Pandora and Starbase 386 was closed. Iluvar had known the moment that he had been informed of the Borg transponder signal that this was something he could not operate independently on. When it came to dealing with the Borg, Starfleet had pretty much adopted a policy of "report early, report often".

Admiral Olivia Tavez (PNPC) had been understandably surprised to receive his call, but the Eighth Fleet's Chief of Staff had wasted no time in dealing with the unexpected news. She had assured Iluvar that Starfleet Command would be notified of the situation and ordered the Pandora to investigate further. Because of the delicate nature of their discovery, however, the admiral had also insisted that they coordinate with the closest vessel to their location, the USS Orlando.

A moment later, the image of another admiral appeared on the display of Iluvar's desktop terminal. "Vice Admiral Androski," Iluvar said with a wry smile, "Command certainly has been kind to you since the last time we spoke...or else, not so kind."

[[Ready Room, USS Orlando]]

Quinn lowered his head slightly. It seemed like cruel irony that he had just been promoted again while Iluvar had been stripped of his admiralty rank in what had clearly been a witch hunt. He had been glad, however, that Iluvar had been allowed to maintain his command. "I suppose so, Captain. What can I do for you and the fine crew of the Pandora?"

[[Ready Room, USS Pandora]]

"I'm afraid we have somewhat of a situation," Iluvar replied, his voice taking on a more serious tone, "We've been patrolling a region of space along the Federation border near Deep Space Five, an assignment that has been going rather routinely until this morning. Our most recent scans have picked up a Borg transponder signal."

[[Ready Room, USS Orlando]]

Quinn's heart skipped a beat at the mention of the Borg. There had been scattered reports of starships encountering them since Voyager's return, but nothing had been reported from that region of space in over fifteen years.

His attention now focused intently on Iluvar, Quinn asked, "The Borg? Where?"

[[Ready Room, USS Pandora]]

"I am transmitting our sensor data to you now," Iluvar replied, reaching over to activate the transmission with one hand, "We've triangulated the source of the signal to a system only about one lightyear from our current location. I have already spoken with Admiral Tavez and, as the Orlando is the closest starship, she felt it best that our two vessels investigate this situation together."

[[Ready Room, USS Orlando]]

Quinn nodded in agreement. "Probably a good call." he said, glancing over the data he had received. "It looks like we're about five hours from your position at maximum warp. Maintain your position and we'll rendezvous with you as soon as we can. Despite wanting to have a better idea of what we're dealing with, I suggest that you limit your active sensors. If it is a Borg ship, there's no need to wave your arms at it until the Orlando's able to give you some backup."

[[Ready Room, USS Pandora]]

"I understand," Iluvar answered. He had every confidence in the ability of his crew to perform in many situations, but he also knew the wisdom in not attracting unwanted attention before it was necessary. "We will maintain our current position until you arrive," he continued, agreeing with Androski's suggestion, "and I've already ordered the Pandora to yellow alert."

[[Ready Room, USS Orlando]]

Quinn nodded. "Good." he responded. He had hoped that Iluvar didn't feel like he was treading on his shoes. "If there's nothing further, I'll need to begin preparing the Orlando."

[[Ready Room, USS Pandora]]

"Of course, admiral," Iluvar replied with a simple nod, knowing that both crews would have their work cut out for them over the next few hours, "We'll be waiting for you."

[[Ready Room, USS Orlando]]

"Okay then." Quinn said simply, already going over what was going to have to be done in his head. "Androski out." he said before closing the channel and standing from his seat and heading towards the bridge.
