Mission: Episode 1.1 - "Now Boarding"
Location: Auxillary Sickbay, USS Pandora
Timeline: MD03, 1030

ON: [[Auxilliary Sickbay, USS Pandora, MD03, 1030]]

Margaret walked into her sickbay for the first time since 'officially' accepting the transfer to the Pandora and declining the General's offer. Looking around, she could smell the overhauled biobeds, obviously fresh from the factory, and could tell that the sickbay had yet to be used for anything more than a scraped knee or overextended joint. Sighing, she looked at the boxes of yet to be unpacked medical equipment. "Figures they wouldn't have unpacked my things. I bet Evans had his unpacked for him." she said to the empty room.

As she finished unpacking the first box of unreplicatable medical supplies, she looks around at the other boxes, put her hands on her hips, and said, "This is going to take me forever."

As she began unpacking the second box, she remembered what it was she was forgetting. "That would make this go quite a bit faster. Computer, activate sickbay beta EMH."

The holographic form of a woman shimmered into existence in the center of the room. "Welcome to sickbay, how may I help you," the woman stated, a friendly smile on her face. She looked at Winchester, seemingly waiting for a reply of some kind.

Margaret stood from her kneeling position next to the boxes. "Hello there, I'm Doctor Margaret Winchester, Chief Surgeon on the Pandora." she said, extending her hand in greeting.

"I am familiar with your record from the ship's database," the hologram said, ignoring the woman's hand, "Are you in need of medical assistance?" She looked around as if searching for something that might explain the need for her activation.

Margaret looked back at the boxes. "I could certainly use some help getting sickbay in order for pre-launch inspection. The Corps of Engineers apparently didn't bother unpacking our equipment."

The Mark X frowned and eyed the boxes with disdain. "I am a medical hologram, lieutenant, not a pack mule," she said, "Perhaps you should ask that Mark I to assist you. I understand that they are rather useful when it comes to menial labor. That is, unless you have already disposed of his program..."

Margaret jutted her jaw to the left slightly. She knew that there would be a few kinks in the program, but this was something else. "You may be a medical *hologram* but I am Chief Surgeon on this ship and I will say what you do or don't do. As for the 'menial labor,' I could always have *you* transfered to a dilithium mine. Though I'd hate for you to break a nail."

Quirking an eyebrow, the hologram still did not move from where she had appeared. "Predictable marine tact," she said, surveying Winchester, "Tell me, do they still use leeches and scalpels on the battlefield?"

"Most certainly not," Margaret retorted, "Though for you I'd be happy to make an exception while reprogramming your subroutines." she continued, moving toward the small computer console on one side of the room.

For a moment, the hologram did not move. She seemed to be unsure of what Winchester was doing, but it didn't take her long to think of a few possibilities. "You do not have authorization to access my matrix," the Mark X pointed out, though some of the confidence in her voice had slipped.

Margaret smirked, the falter of the EMH's voice told her that she was starting to get somewhere. "Are you willing to bet your ability to speak on that? Or perhaps I could alter your physical subroutines to match that of a targ." she said, wiggling her fingers in mid air.

The Mark X narrowed her eyes, trying to determine if the surgeon was telling the truth or trying to bluff. "You wouldn't dare," she snarled. This woman was so much like many biologics, unappreciative of the work done by so many EMH's like her. Granted, the previous models had been quite inferior, like that Mark I she had seen earlier, but there was no reason this woman needed to be so short with her.

"You have your choice," Margaret replied, half stepping out from behind the console, "either you help me unpack, or you find out just how good I am at holographic surgery." Folding her arms, Margaret stared at the EMH through slitted eyes, waiting for the next move to be made.

The two women stared at each other for a moment. "Very well," the hologram huffed after a moment, "but the captain will be hearing about this, you can be sure of that." Angrily, she stalked off toward a half-emptied container of medical equipment and began to sort it. All biologics, it seemed, were much the same. They used you and, when they were finished, they sent you back to the buffer until they decided to call again. Such was the life of a medical hologram.

As she continued to unpack the medical equipment, the Mark X thought back to her first activation. She clearly recalled seeing the inferior Mark I standing next to her, an insult to her own design, but there were two others present as well. One of them had been a child, likely no older than thirteen or fourteen years of age. The other was a Starfleet officer that she had not recognized. It only took a moment for her to access the personnel files and she was soon able to discover that the man had been Rear Admiral Iluvar, recently transferred to command the Pandora. It seemed odd to her that he would have been so protective of an inferior model EMH.

Margaret smiled, not so much because she had actually gotten the Mark X to do something, but because she had broken through the titanium wall that was the EMH's personality. *I guess we'll see just how stubborn this EMH is from now on.* Margaret thought to herself.
