Location: Cargo Bay 01, USS Orlando-A
Timeline: Mission Day 04, 1548

ON: [[Cargo Bay 01, USS Orlando, Mission Day 04, 1548]]

Pieces of hull plating and conduit lay scattered about the floor of Cargo Bay One as Tobias and the members of the engineering team surveyed what they had beamed aboard from the Borg debris field. As the El-Aurian cast his gaze around the room, he could hear thousands of voices whispering quietly in his mind, almost as if they were trying to tell him something. Tobias closed his eyes. He took a deep breath and tried to focus himself on the task at hand. This was not the time to allow for distractions.

The cargo bay was crawling with techs. Zekk hadn't seen this much Borg debris in well...ever. The Admiral wanted them to try and determine what sort of ship that the debris came from, although Zekk wasn't sure that was something that was going to happen given that no one seemed to have any idea how they were going to figure that out.

Trace was a little surprised at how much debris there was. He had assumed that whoever it was or whatever it was that had enough firepower to destroy the Borg would have wiped all trace of them out...not true apparently. They had brought in as much as they could and there was still some floating around out there.

"What do we have, lieutenant," Tobias asked, turning his attention away from the debris around them and focusing on the two department heads standing opposite him.

"I'm assuming that a statement about the obvious is not what you were looking for?" Zekk asked, kneeling down to inspect a large piece of debris. "Its Borg in origin but that's about all I can tell you right now. I don't have any clue what destroyed it let alone what kind of ship it was."

"The beginning is a very good place to start," Tobias said approvingly as he considered the engineer's observation. Noting the debris as being Borg in origin may have been an obvious assessment, but at least it gave them a place to start. "Anything to add, Mister Vosh," the El-Aurian asked, glancing in the direction of the Trill.

Trace to smile at the Maran's assortment, he almost expected Zekk to make a sarcastic remark, although he suspected that he held it in due to the fact that he didn't really know their XO all that well. Trace knelt down to look at the same piece of debris before pulling out his tricorder and scanning it. Like they had on the bridge, they weren't coming up with much.

"I'm not detecting anything out of the ordinary," Trace said. "Micro-fractures all this segment of the debris...which I think used to be a piece of the outer hull and that's it."

Nodding slowly, Tobias reached over and lifted a tricorder from atop the free-standing workstation nearby. He opened it with a practiced flip of the wrist and began scanning another section of debris. The readings that scrolled across the tricorder's display certainly confirmed what the other two senior officers had said thus far, but they did not reveal much more. "Any theories," he asked.

"Other then something even more powerful then the Borg is out there," Zekk asked. "Not really, its a possbility that the ship suffered some sort of catastrophic system failure or warp core breach but looking at the scans that we conducted before we beamed the debris aboard thats probably not likely."

"Shouldn't we detect some kind of sign if it was something as simple accidental core breach?" Trace asked.

"Generally speaking there are tell tale signs," Zekk shrugged, indicating the tricorders. "Usually increased radiation signatures all over the hull, which we haven't found any trace of...of course that also mean that if someone did take out the Borg with a weapon they were using a system that we know nothing about."

The voices continued to whisper in the back of Tobias' mind as he studied the debris samples before him. He closed his eyes and breathed in before letting it out slowly. "A valid postulation, lieutenant," the El-Aurian said as he opened his eyes again, "but it is best not to preclude any possibility. Based on the debris we have identified and analyzed so far, is it possible to attempt a simulated reconstruction of the vessel?"

Zekk arched an eyebrow at that comment. He had no idea what kind of ship they were even looking at here, let alone what destroyed it. He had a feeling that he and his engineers were going to be busy for the reminder of the night...probably into the wee hours of the morning.

"Doubtful sir," Zekk responded. "At the moment, I don't even know what kind of vessel this was let alone what destroyed it."

The El-Aurian's tricorder flipped closed with a sharp snap as he took one more look at the debris around him. They had been left with a rather large puzzle and almost no idea of how to even begin putting it back together. "I'm afraid we are left with little choice," Tobias said, "Have your teams begin compiling what information we already have based on previous encounters and recent scans. I would feel better if we had some idea as to what sort of presence the Borg are operating with here."

"I'll do my best sir," Zekk nodded, although he had no idea how they were going to accomplish that fact.

"Mister Vosh," Tobias continued, turning to the Trill security/tactical chief, "I want you to begin analyzing the energy signatures associated with the debris we've found and see if you can't determine what might have caused this destruction. Was it some natural phenomena or was this caused by something artificial?"

"I'm afraid that I don't have a clue," Trace admitted. "I'll have to work closely with our engineering and science departments to have a chance at finding anything though."

"I'll have the smaller sections of the debris transported to the science lab," Zekk said. "And have an engineering team come look at the larger sections."

"See to it," Tobias said as he flipped open his tricorder again, "We have a great deal of work to do and I am afraid not much time in which to do it."
