Mission:
Episode 1.1 - "Now Boarding"
Location: Main Engineering
Timeline: MD03, 1200 Hours
Earlond strode into main Engineering, glancing around. Spyng a nearby crewman, he headed over. "Excuse me," he said. "Could you tell me where Lieutenant Bishop is?"
Crewman Daniels looked up to see the ship's XO staring at him. He blinked for a moment before nodding and pointing to man standing near the warpcore. "Just over there sir."
Bishop was looking over a PADD while another Engineer stood by. He nodded. "Have Cleary install a backup on this unit, we don't want this blowin' out on us at the wrong time." The young man nodded and moved off.
"Mr. Bishop?" Earlond asked, walking over to the CEO. "I'm Commander Earlond."
Bish turned at the sound of an unfamiliar voice, and pushed aside his momentary annoyance, wondering if the entire bloody command staff was coming down for a visit. "Commander," he said easily, approaching Earlond. "What can I do for you?" Even as he spoke, the Engineer saw Ensign Axxit approaching, mouth open to ask another of his seemingly endless questions. Bishop shot the crewman a look, causing the Andorian to shut his mouth and turn on his heel in one fluid motion.
"You seem pretty busy," Earlond remarked.
Bishop shrugged slightly. "You show me a bored Engineer and I'll show you someone who shouldn't be an Engineer," he said with a smile that didn't quite reach his eyes. Did he come down ten decks to tell me that? Bish wondered to himself.
Earlond eyed Bishop. "You're new, right?" he asked. "How are you settling in?"
"Yeah I just joined the crew recently," he said. "As for settling in, things have been fairly smooth--" his words were interrupted by a loud crash on the other side of Engineering. Bishop winced at the sound, and was about to investigate when he heard a voice say, rather sheepishly, "Sorry." The Chief sighed and smiled wanly at the XO. "As I was saying, I'm in the process of whipping this team into shape. The ship still needs a lot of work, but its mostly tweaking and fine tuning at this point."
"Everything going well, then?" Earlond asked. "You haven't had any major setbacks?"
"Aside from occasionally considering murder," he growled, directing his words and glare at the young engineer who had dropped his toolkit a moment before as he shuffled past red-faced. "No, there've been no major setbacks. As I said to the Admiral, this ship is bit over-designed and under-engineered, but we'll get her in shape soon enough," he said with a nod.
"I wouldn't recommend murder," Earlond said. "Iluvar doesn't approve of that line of correction." He appeared totally serious...as though he had attempted it before.
The Chief blinked at that. "No... I suppose not," he said warily. "Was there anything specific you needed sir?" he asked, suddenly and inexplicably wanting to end this conversation as quickly as possible.
"Just checking to see how well things are going," Earlond said. "Let me know if you have any concerns, especially personnel-wise."
"I will sir, thank you," Bishop said with a smile.
Earlond nodded, glancing around the area. "Carry on," he said, turning and heading for the exit.
"Aye sir," the Chief said softly, watching the man go with an odd expression. "I'll do that." Shaking off the odd feeling, he looked at Axxit. "Hey Axxit, what did you need me for? You forget how to be an Engineer again?" he grumbled, much to the amusement of his crew.
