An Upgrade

Location: Chief Intelligence Officer's Office
Timeline: Day 2, 0900

ON:
[[Chief Intelligence Officer's Office, Day 2, 0900]]

Now mostly settled into her new quarters, Kiral (PNPC) decided it was about time to visit Christopher and see the new office. This ship was larger than the Tethys, so it was possible that Intel would have more room... Perhaps a larger office for Christopher and maybe a walk-in closet for Intel gear rather than a closet that she couldn't even fit in if she had to. Pausing outside, she rang the doorchime.

McNeil set a stack of PADDs down on the desk and looked around his new office. It was more than twice the size of the office he'd had on the Tethys and he was somewhat at a loss as to what he should do with all the extra space. Of course, he was glad not to be so cramped as well, but it seemed he'd gone from too small of an office to too large of one. Hearing the door chime sound he called, "Come in."

At the sound of Christopher's voice, Kiral walked into the office and stopped just inside the door. It would appear she no longer had to assume that the Chief Intelligence Officer's office would be larger...this one was absolutely a good bit larger than the one on the Tethys. "Looks like you got an upgrade," she commented with a smile.

"We all got an upgrade," McNeil responded. "I got a decent sized office, we got an actual work area... and we have a decryption lab. Granted, it's got nothing on the one at Starfleet Command in San Francisco, but it's pretty good for a medium-sized starship."

"I wouldn't expect an Intelligence Suite like the one at Command. But the addition of a decryption lab and work area is certainly nice," Kiral replied. "You've already checked them out?"

"Not yet," McNeil replied. "But I took a look at the information available about them in the ship's computer, as well as the deck layouts I was able to spring from the shipyard's files."

Kiral nodded, "I've been exploring the ship, mostly. But I'm planning to check out the other facilities either today or tomorrow. Perhaps I'll stop by and see if you're free when I do."

"If you have the time we could go look now," McNeil suggested. He hadn't had much time to confer with Kiral in the last couple of weeks and wanted a chance to catch up.

"I have time," she replied. "Lead the way, sir," Kiral smiled as she stepped aside so Christopher could exit first.

Nodding, McNeil headed out of his office and down the corridor. The lab was only a short distance away, on the same deck as the offices.

She followed him out of the room towards the work area and decryption lab. It'd been awhile since Kiral had had the opportunity to use actual Intelligence facilities on a ship. It was a nice change, in her opinion.

After a few moments, McNeil stopped at a door with very nondescript markings and a sign proclaiming the room to be filled with "Communications Equipment." Tapping a quick code into the access panel next to the door, McNeil stepped aside as the door hissed open and motioned for Kiral to enter. "After you, Lieutenant."

Kiral quirked an eyebrow and gave him a nod before entering the room. She stepped just to the right, allowing Christopher room to enter. "Who will be given the access code?"

"All of us in the department, the Admiral. The senior officers, security, and medical will be able to get in with emergency overrides, but for normal access it's pretty limited." McNeil smiled. "Not really much to hide here, though."

Before them were several desks with embedded consoles. There was a cabinet on one wall which McNeil knew to be stocked with PADDs, decryption and encryption tools, and cases upon cases of storage media. The opposite wall from that held a panel that currently mimicked the Master Situation Display on the Bridge. And finally, directly across from the entrance was a bank of windows looking out into space. McNeil doubted they'd ever be used, but those windows had built in blast shutter and could be made opaque instantly with a single verbal or typed command.

Her eyes moved around the room as she took it all in. "Very nice... Looks like they did a good job with it." Kiral walked around slowly, lightly running her fingertips over some of the consoles as she did.

"It's bigger than a closet, at any rate," McNeil replied with a smile. "There's no seat assignments, so you can use whichever console strikes your fancy when you need to make use of the lab."

"Indeed it is." Kiral paused in front of one of the consoles, "I believe I rather enjoy this one...perhaps we'll have a chance to get acquainted with the new equipment before our next mission."

"Well, you can start whenever you're ready," McNeil replied, picking up a PADD from the storage cabinet. He typed in a quick sequence on the PADD, then held it out to Kiral. "Your access code."

Kiral took the PADD and read the code several times, committing it to memory. "Thank you, sir. Is there anything in particular I should start working on?"

McNeil shook his head. "Not yet, but I'll let you know when there is. For now, just make sure we have information available on Romulan interests and activities in general. We'll worry about details when we know where exactly we're going."

"I'll see what I can dig up," Kiral replied. There was certainly a good deal of information floating around about the Romulans, hopefully she could find some good sources and get even better information. "Do you need me to pass out the access codes to anyone else in the department?"

McNeil picked up another PADD and quickly typed in a series of entries, then held it out to Kiral. "If you would, please. I'll give Moretti hers, but the rest of them are on here."

Nodding, Kiral took the PADD, "Of course, sir, I'll take care of it." Her eyes lingered on the console, but she decided she should probably go find the others to give them their access codes first. "Is there anything else you need?"

McNeil shook his head. "Not right now, no."

"Alright, let me know if there is. I'm definitely looking forward to using this area... I'll go ahead and give the others their access codes, then," Kiral replied with a smile. Giving him a brief nod, she headed for the door.
