Beaming Down

Posted on Tue Apr 20th, 2010 @ 11:51am by Vice Admiral Iluvar & Commander Earlond & Commander Fala Awen & Lieutenant JG Margaret Winchester

Mission: Episode 1.2 - "A House Divided"
Location: Transporter Room 1, USS Pandora
Timeline: MD15, 0718

ON: [[Transporter Room 1, USS Pandora, MD15, 0718]]

Earlond walked into the Transporter Room, still thinking about the whole arrangement. It was strange to think of the Romulans as allies, even if it turned out to be just temporary. And yet...Earlond couldn't shake the feeling that something wasn't right about this.

Having come to the Transporter Room from the bridge, Awen entered with Earlond. The two had been mostly silent on the way - likely both lost in their own thoughts. She had to admit that a number of thoughts were coursing through her head. Hopefully the whole thing wasn't some kind of trap - the Bajoran was apalled that a colony would be placed on such an unstable planet. Surely there was another that could have been used for colonization. But, perhaps more was going on in the colony than they realized - some important research perhaps...the conditions on the planet would certainly make it less likely that "visitors" would come poking around.

Margaret entered the transporter room, full away team medkit strapped over her shoulder. It had been a long time since she had been part of an away team and, not being entirely sure of what they would find on the surface, she wanted to be as well prepared as she could be.

Nol (NPC) walked into the transporter room, followed closely by Telyn (NPC). They'd been on patrol around the ship when Awen had contacted them about reporting to the transporter room for the away team. Nol wasn't overly convinced about the Romulans and wasn't keen on checking up on some colony, but orders were orders. However, when he looked over at Telyn, she seemed perfectly calm and unconcerned.

Chief Petty Officer Styles (NPC) stood behind the transporter control console, watching as the away team assembled in the room to prepare for beaming down. He recognized the two senior staff members as well as the ship's chief surgeon, but the two security officers' names were unknown to him. Judging by the fact that the team was rather small and comprised security personnel, one medic, and the first officer, he could only begin to wonder what they expected to find on the surface. Rumor was that they had recently entered orbit around a Romulan planet, but he didn't really know if any of the details were even true.

"Alright, everyone," Earlond said, addressing the away team. "We're not entirely sure what we'll be looking at down there. This should just be a routine inspection of the Romulans' border defense, but we'll first have to see what we're surveying. It should be safe, but be on the lookout for anything unusual. Which is not to say be prepared to shoot anything that moves. Remember, we're here to help them, so leave any itchy trigger-fingers here." This was something Earlond would have to be careful of, because he - like many - were used to seeing the Romulans as anything but allies.

Turning towards the transporter chief, Earlond asked, "Are we ready to go?"

"I've had a little trouble with some of the interference in the atmosphere, but I think I've cleared it up," Styles said, looking toward the commander as he spoke, "We shouldn't have any trouble maintaining transporter lock."

Awen raised an eyebrow, "You think? I would prefer to end up in one piece when I get beamed down to the planet, Chief. I will want a constant transporter lock on all team members." She didn't feel the need to add that she had no idea what they would find and might need an emergency beam-out. The away team likely already knew that though.

"Yes ma'am," the chief said, busying himself with the transporter controls.

Listening to Awen going on about transporter safety made Margaret chuckle slightly as she thought of a famous Admiral that, to that day, would not use the transporter. "Don't worry, Commander." she said. "I'm sure you'll rematerialize at least close to how you're supposed to."

"Let's get going," Earlond said. "Time to start the party." He strode up and took his place on the transporter pad.

Waiting for her two Security Officers to walk onto the transporter pad, Awen took a quick glance around the Transporter Room before also stepping onto the pad. She hoped that the area they were transporting to would be clear - that would be a good start. However, the Bajoran was tensed and ready to draw her phaser if necessary.

Nol looked over at the Chief Security/Tactical Officer and noticed her demeanor. For a moment, the two locked eyes and he gave her a slight nod. This was his first away mission on her team and he did not intend to let her down. He looked over at Telyn - she seemed rather calm given the circumstances.

Margaret, settling into her spot on the transporter pad, shook her head. While they didn't know what they'd be getting into, everyone either seemed too tense or too at ease. *I guess it all balances out in the end* she thought to herself.

"Transport coordinates received and confirmed," Styles announced, looking up at the team waiting on the pad before him. At the signal from Earlond, he ran his hands across the transporter controls, activating the Pandora's transporters. There was a familiar, almost musical tone as the away team dematerialized into nothingness. Styles glanced at his board to confirm that the transporter cycle had completed as planned.

"Styles to bridge," he called, "Transport complete."
