Reflections on Perspective

Posted on Sun Oct 31st, 2010 @ 6:43pm by Commander Christopher McNeil

Admiral Iluvar's Board of Inquiry convened this morning, and for some reason the prosecution decided to call me to the stand as their first witness. I'm sure Mercer is up to something, but I can't prove it without more information. Unfortunately, I doubt that I was able to significantly help the Admiral's defense, either.

Certainly I don't believe my testimony was damaging to the defense in any significant way. I do not, as a rule, involve myself in command decisions. That's not my job, and any Admiral who's ever served on a ship with an Intelligence department would realize that. My job is to keep Iluvar apprised of all of his options, no matter what they are.

Whether or not I agree with his decisions is not important either, though for some it might be an interesting topic. That being said, if I ever felt that Iluvar was endangering this ship, the crew, or the Federation I would make sure it was known to the appropriate people and take whatever action I felt necessary to neutralize or mitigate that danger, within regulations.

Of course, Mercer doesn't know that. There's a good chance the admirals making up the board don't either. I've never met any of them before, and it's possible that parts of my record are classified above their access level. Or it may not be. I don't know, and I'm not going to worry about it now.

What I am going to worry about is making sure this ship continues to run properly so that when Admiral Iluvar is re-instated to command there are no whispers behind his back from a questioning crew. THAT kind of situation is a way to get all of us killed very quickly, even on a seemingly routine mission.
