Filling in the Hole?

ON: Personal log, Michael Evans.

It seems like no time at all since the incident with that Romulan colony. It's hard to believe so many months have passed. Though a verbal reprimand was placed in my file regarding the incident with the shuttle, Commander Earlond, in true form, took the brunt of things. Still I can't help feeling sort-of indebted to him; he took the flak while giving me a chance to help those people. I only wish I'd made it there.

The ship has seemed rather emptier without him, but things move along much as they always have. We're still in need of a replacement Chief Surgeon; Dr. Haelen and I have been rotating those duties. People get injured; we fix 'em up.

On a more personal note, I've been considering something... I've been the Second Officer for some time now... My position as the 2XO and the CMO have little to do with my rank; still, I can't help but find myself musing about filling in the hole on my third pip and becoming a full Commander.

I haven't spoken to the captain about it yet. Don't know why. I guess it feels kind of funny pursuing a rank since it's never really been a driving force for me (except for when it's been needed to get the job done, that is). Maybe I'll ask Commander Fala first; see what she thinks...
