Ruminations

[Day 1, 1430, McNeil's Office]

Personal log, stardate... something or other.

I've been digging through personnel files for the last hour or so and I've found just about everything there is on Captain Mercer and each of the admirals sitting on the panel. The admirals are pretty straightforward, long careers, lots of command experience, though not all of it in Starship operations... in short, they're all exactly what you would expect admirals to be... experienced, competent officers who've climbed up the ladder.

Mercer, on the other hand, has a record that would indicate he should be an admiral by now... either that or in a rehab clinic for workaholics. He's an ace attorney and never seems to be wrong when he asks for charges to be filed. Even I have to admit that there are a few blemishes on Admiral Iluvar's record, but most of them are prior to his promotion to Admiral, which usually means that JAG has already looked them over and seen nothing worth prosecuting. And that tells me that either Mercer has dug up something that I, and all of the Starfleet JAG corps, have missed, or there's something very wrong going on here.

Whatever's going on, I need to find out. Iluvar may not be the perfect officer, but he's not done anything that warrants being dragged through the JAG process, at least as far as I can tell. Of course, without knowing what Mercer has either dug up or cobbled together, it's damn near impossible to find evidence to refute any charges that might be filed. I'm going to have to keep digging, but first I want to go talk to the Admiral... and then I have to head to the bridge for the evening watch.

End Log.
