Getting Underway

Mission: Episode 2.2 - "Resistance"
Location: Main Bridge, USS Orlando
Timeline: Mission Day 01, 0900

ON [[Bridge, USS Orlando, MD-01, 0900 hours]]

With only minutes remaining before the USS Orlando-A was scheduled to depart for the very first time, the bridge was a flurry of activity as personnel bustled to and fro in attempts to ensure that everything was prepared. Tobias stood a few paces behind the flight control station as he watched the young Ensign Richards (NPC) running a few last-minute checks of the navigation systems. Satisfied that everything seemed to be under control, the El-Aurian turned and began making his way across the room to the position just right of the center command chair.

Zekk still had his fingers crossed that they wouldn't blow apart when they went to warp. Although the battery system that he and his engineers had come up with had passed every test with flying colors. It was still a little nerve racking seeing as how this would be the ships first time out of the gate. He headed over to the engineering station.

Stepping out of the turbolift, Christian quickly did a visual scan of the Bridge. Typical…, he sighed inwardly. Someone’s forgotten to assign me a station! Of course, most starship bridges didn’t come with a Strategic Operations station as standard, but he thought perhaps the Task Force’s brand spanking-new flagship might have been different. It was nice to feel wanted… But then again…

Making a bee-line for the Tactical station, he nodded at the fresh-faced young Ensign currently manning it.

“You’re relieved, Ensign” he said sternly.

“Sir?” The young man looked up, quizzically and rather worried he’d done something wrong on his first assignment.

“You heard me Mister, I’ll take over here. Now move!”

The Ensign scurried off, and with a smug self-satisfaction, Christian moved behind the station. The Orlando’s last Chief Tactical Officer had been reassigned, and so Christian figured he was entitled to her chair for the meantime. Of course, as soon as a permanent replacement had been appointed, he’d give it back. Perhaps…

Caleb Noventum had thought the original Orlando to be a glamorous wonder. He didn't know better. It was his first starship after years of work in data analysis and then field work. This starship was three generations beyond that relic, newer even then the Sovereign Class. He made sure the new black pip on his collar was straight. When the turbolift door opened to the bridge he made an involuntary whistle.

He moved quickly to claim an auxiliary science station as his own. He didn't want the same misunderstanding as when he first came on the Orlando and had to practically steal a place to work. He quickly entered his codes in and set the station up to his specs. He saw some new faces on the bridge. He hoped they introduced themselves because he was terrible at that sort of thing.

Greg walked onto the bridge, and leaned on the bridge railing behind the command chairs. It was as good a place as any to stand while they got out of space dock, it wasn't like there was a burning need for the Marines right now.

Dr. R'Sera walked out from the sickbay office to check on her nursing staff before making her way up to the bridge. They were working efficiently and methodically at securing the moving carts and items for departure, so she nodded to Shress and left.

The route to the bridge was somewhat intuitive. The new ship was a little more gracefully curved inside than the much aged predecessor, a fact which would take some getting used to but was pleasant in its own way. Upon entry to the bridge, she nodded to the few who turned to see her, then leaned on the rear rail behind Quinn's seat.

Quinn walked briskly from his new ready room. It was a similar design to the one he held on the old Orlando, but it was slightly larger and had more advanced technology built in, rather than having been tacked on as was the case with his old ready room. He nodded cheerfully to a few officers as he made his way to the seat situated towards the center of the bridge. "Good morning, everyone." he said, getting the bridge's attention. "What do you say we get under way? Mr. Richards, begin pre-departure procedure."

Exchanging a look with the admiral, Tobias lowered himself into his familiar place and called up a systems display on the console available to him. He had been present for several departure operations in his time, some of them being the inaugural launches, and he found that there always seemed to be a sense of eager anticipation which accompanied every instance.

Zekk had grown to at least liking his new commanding officer, although it probably had something to do with the fact that he was an engineer as well.

"Full power available sir, we are ready to go at your command," Zekk stated. "Good chance that we won't blow ourselves up too," he smiled.

Yehonathan quietly made his way to the bridge. He was not there to disturb anyone, he was there to watch the new USS Orlando make her maiden voyage. He had an ulterior motive though, he was there to observe.

Often times the Chief Diplomat's job could became that of a crew wrangler if there was a 'bad apple' among them. He hope that that would not be the case but it never failed that there was at least one person that was a thorn in everyone's side.

Yehonathan stayed in the rear area of the bridge, out of the way of any of the other crew. The only indication of his presence at the moment was the turbo-lift doors and a quiet nod of acknowledgment from V. Admiral Androski, which he returned in kind.

Mike (NPC) twisted his head so that he could be heard better from his position towards the front of the bridge. "Dock master clears us for launch, Admiral." he said cheerfully, glad to be getting back out into space.

Quinn nodded and looked around the bridge, smiling. "Mr. Richards, take us out."

Zekk turned back to his display, feeling a sense of pride come over him as power surged through the ships mighty engines. He and his team had worked many hours to make such a feat happen and now that they were moving out under their own power, he was almost glowing with pride. Another look at the display told him that they were all well within normal limits.
