Mission:
Episode 2.2 - "Resistance"
Location: Ready Room, USS Orlando
Timeline: Mission Day 01, 1015
ON: [[Bridge, USS Orlando MD-01 1015 hours]]
Trace had been shocked...well more like completely dumbfounded when he had been informed of his upcoming transfer. He had barely spent 6 months on the Malinche before being shipped off to the newly commissioned USS Orlando. The ship was brand new, you could still smell it. He was happy that Ryan Morris (NPC) had also gotten a chance to transfer with him.
When he arrived he wasn't expecting that he would be a department head, although he had a feeling that might change sound someone with more experience showed up. Either way it would look good on his resume. He took a step back from his tactical station and looked around the bridge again, still a little shocked that he was here.
He moved toward the captain's ready room, pressing the door chime.
[[Ready Room, USS Orlando]]
Quinn looked up slightly and through the holographic display hovering above his desk, having a pretty good idea of who was on the other side of the door. It wasn't very often that a new transfer was brought on board an hour after leaving space dock, but he had made an emergency request to have a new Security and Tactical Chief brought on board after Commander Stone had been transfered.
Tapping a command into the desktop interface to deactivate the display, Quinn cleared his throat and called, "Come!"
Trace took a deep breath before entering the room. He hadn't really had a chance to meet the man that was commanding the newest ship in the fleet.
"Ensign Trace Vosh reporting for duty sir."
"Welcome aboard the Orlando, Mr. Vosh." Quinn said, standing up from his seat. "Can I get you anything?" he asked, indicating towards the replicator.
"No thank you sir," Trace said, looking around the ready room. Like the rest of the room it appeared to be pretty spacious.
Quinn nodded and walked around to the front of his desk. Many new officers had stepped through those doors, or rather the doors of the old Orlando, and Quinn hoped that he had learned how to make them feel welcomed on their new assignment. "I know you just came aboard, but first impressions are often the best." he said. "What do you think of the Orlando?"
"She's a big ship sir," Trace smiled. "Much bigger then the Malinche."
"She is at that." Quinn responded, making his way towards the couch set up against the view ports and having a seat, indicating for Trace to do the same if he wished.
"Permission to speak freely?" Trace asked. He hoped that the Vice Admiral would be as open to his crew speaking their mind as his other commanding officers. If not, well it was better to find out now.
Quinn nodded. "Of course, Ensign."
"Why did you pick me sir?" Trace asked. "I am sure there were dozens of other officers dying to get aboard the new Orlando...I mean why would you let command assign you an ensign for your new CTSO?"
"Well, Ensign," Quinn started out, "there were several things that I looked at. Your personal record, as well as the record of your symbiote played a large roll in it."
Quinn gave an inwards sigh. Wanting to be completely honest with his new Chief Security and Tactical Officer, he continued. "There was also the fact that I needed someone for the position immediately. None of the current staff have even remotely the experience to fill the position."
"I'll take that as a compliment sir," Trace smiled. "I did manage to smuggle over one of my cohorts from the Malinche, Ensign Ryan Morris (PNPC), he's a good officer I could really use him here if you don't have any objection."
"I don't think that'll be a problem." Quinn responded, smiling slightly. "We don't quite have a full staff at the moment anyway."
"I also hear that you have a former AMAC onboard?" Trace asked. He had heard plenty of stories about the AMACs from his former XO, Jason Barrett.
Quinn nodded. "Yes... Mr. Alana has been an interesting addition to my crew. I'm quite glad I was able to get him away from the shipyard."
Trace nodded. He hoped that he could get on Lt. Alana's good side, he knew that the man could be a wealth of information. Hopefully, Zekk would be ok with sharing some of that information.
"I was curious sir, I was looking over the specs and unless the yards get something wrong...how is that your phaser are capable of generatoring 15% more yield then the standard type XII array?"
Quinn chuckled slightly. Even he was impressed with what the engineering team at the yards had managed to come up with. "That would be Lieutenant Alana and his team's doing. One of them came up with a battery system that seems to be increasing efficiency across the board."
"Wow, wonder never cease," Trace said. "Anyways, I was wondering if there was anything that you wanted me to focus on. I've already scheduled a conference with Mr. Alana regarding our tactical systems and plan on running a few battle drills tomorrow morning."
"Just make sure you're familiar with the ship and her systems. The events in Romulan space has created a potentially hostile situation, so just make sure you're ready for anything." Quinn responded. "As for the drills, just make sure to run them past Commander Naros beforehand."
"El-Alurians," Trace smiled. "My previous hosts have had a lot of experience with them. They really are great listeners."
Quinn nodded. "Well, if there's nothing else, I will let you settle in."
"Thank you sir," Trace smiled. He headed out of the Admiral Androski's ready room. Maybe this change would be for the better. He just hoped that he didn't screw it up.
