A Quick Look Around

Mission:
Episode 2.2 - "Resistance"
Location: Armory, USS Orlando
Timeline: Mission Day 01, 1600
ON [[Armory, USS Orlando, MD-01, 1600 hours]]
Trace was amazed at the Orlando. The Malinche was a marvel of technology as well but this, well this was far beyond anything that he had ever imagined. And to think that they had placed in a department head position too...that was a little more then daunting to think about. Clearly, Admiral Androski thought a lot of him. He just hoped that the confidence was well earned. He was also glad that he got to take Ryan (PNPC) with him, it would make it easier on them both having a familiar face around.
"Did you look at these reports?" Ryan asked, setting a PADD down on the armory table. "Someone did some serious tinkering with her phaser arrays and SIF generators."
"I did," Trace nodded. "According to the Admiral our cheif engineer and his team are to blame for that."
"Huh?"
"Apparently, when they installed the updated warpcore, it was almost too powerful for the ship. So, it looks like the engineering team devised a seris of batteries that could be charged with the excess power and then bled off into various systems, including the SIF generators and the weapons systems."
"Impressive, who is the chief engineer anyways?" Ryan asked.
"A Maran by the name of Zekk Alana, he was a former AMAC."
"AMAC?" Ryan asked.
Trace nodded. "Advanced Maran Assault Commando; the best of the best. Think about Starfleet Marines on steroids, those guys make Klingon's look all cute and cuddly."
Ryan whistled. He had heard about the Maran's combat prowess, had even seen Jason Barrett, the Malinche's XO in battle, who was only half Maran and that was impressive. He was more then a little curious to see what a full blooded Maran could do in that respect. He had a feeling the result would not be good for anyone on the receiving end.
"I'm going to head down to engineering in a bit and ask if he wouldn't mind helping us out with a training session or two."
"Sounds like a plan," Ryan nodded. "I'll get to work on these weapon system diagnostics. Any more security officers?"
"Just one," Trace said. "And that's it. I am afraid that we may be short staffed for awhile until we make it back to port."
"We've been short staffed before," Ryan shrugged. "Its not like we can't handle it."
"I know," Trace sighed. "But something about this mission isn't setting well with me. I don't like the idea of going off into the unknown not really knowing anything."
"Story of our lives," Ryan smiled.
"True enough," Trace shrugged. "Anyways, I am going to head over to the XO now introduce myself and see if he has any objections to these battle drills."
