Yehonathan walked into his office with a large mug of coffee and a yawn. He was not a morning person but chose to be. Early was the best time to get things accomplished. He'd discovered that the latter part of his day was usually occupied with video conferences with various diplomats and Starfleet.
He sat down at his desk and grabbed one of the PADD's on the edge of the desk, entered his codes, and browsed his agenda for the day. Like always the latter part of the day was filled with meetings. He wondered if it was always going to be like this, didn't all those people realize you could get more done in the earlier part of the day?
He rubbed his eyes and lifted the monitor from it's horizontal position and logged into it. He started opening programs like he alway did. He'd made it about half way through his new routine when he received an unusual pop up message on the screen that said some computer jarbil and then his terminal shut down.
He pressed a button, then again. Nothing. He swore quietly in Russian.
"Lt Alana, could I bother you for a moment?"

Zekk had his head halfway inside an engineering trunk when his combadge beeped. He nearly smacked his head on the top of it but managed to save face and not knock himself out in front of nearly the entire engineering staff. He tapped his combadge, opening the channel.
"Go ahead."
"Something is wrong with my terminal. It just shut down. I wonder if you could take a look at it."
"Give me a few moments ensign," Zekk responded. "I need finishing replacing this relay and then I will be right up."
Yehonathan grimaced slightly, this was cutting into valuable time for him to get things done but he understood that the Chief Engineer had one or two things to occupy his time as well.
"Alright Lt, I'll be waiting." Yehonathan said then tapped his commbadge to close the connection, "Impatiently."

Zekk arrived, toolkit in hand. He had yet to meet their diplomatic officer, although to be fair, he spent the majority of the first several days just making sure that the Orlando didn't tear herself apart. Despite nailing down all the major issues, there were still several much smaller, yet still annoying ones that kept popping up. He pressed the door chime and then stepped inside.
Yehonathan looked up from his PADD at Alana and nodded, "Chief."
"What seems to be the problem?" Zekk asked.
"I'm not exactly sure. I was going through my usual routine of opening the programs that I use, then all the sudden this message pops up with some random characters and 'errors' and then the whole," he muttered something quietly in Russian, "thing shut down."
Zekk frowned; they hadn't had any computer glitches yet. Although that wasn't to say that they weren't going to be some bugs still present in the system. He thought about calling one of the ops officers as well, seeing as how programming was more their field but decided that Yehonathan already looked annoyed enough.
He watched as Alana started working on the terminal. He raised an eyebrow when the Chief gently but forcefully pushed him out of the way and crawled under his workstation. He wondered what on earth was so important under his desk that the Chief had to push him out of the way.
"Doesn't look like they finished connecting the primary and secondary power cables...and looks like you might have LED out on your monitor too," Zekk said, poking his head back out from under the desk. "It appears that they decided that half working was ok enough for now."
"Da, I'm sure there are lots of things that are still only half working. You'd think they'd have computer terminals up and running though before the ship launched. They are kind of important."
"So our warp engines that don't blow us up or navigational deflectors that actually work," Zekk responded. He knew that it might be annoying but considering that they had launched a month a head of schedule, mainly due to the prodding of Admiral Androski, they were pretty minor considering what could have gone wrong.
"Don't worry, I'll have it fixed in a few minutes," Zekk said, grabbing his toolkit and scooting under the desk again. "We're lucky this is all thats gone wrong really. When I first got transferred here, the warp engines would almost tear the ship apart when you went to warp 1 and the damn replicators made nothing but cat food."
Yehonathan raised his eyebrow again. "I think if you were privvy to some of the information that I've discovered while studying the area we'll be patrolling, you would agree that the Admiral pushing things along was probably a wise decision."
"I was a AMAC," Zekk said, pulling off the access panel. "I am all to familiar with needing to get somewhere fast but generally speaking I wouldn't be rushing a brand new ship into production."
This time Yehonathan muttered under his breath in a mixture of Hebrew and Russian. Some people were completely oblivious to the matters at hand unless they were right in front of their face.
"Whether we run into the Romulans or not this is still a dangerous section of space. If it's not Romulans, then it's space pirates, or intergalatic criminals. None of which is particularly good company."
"You forgot Borg and these Yang Zutal we keep hearing about," Zekk said, grabbing a spanner form his toolkit. He went to work on tightening down the connections.
"Dobro gore! You know what I meant. So the ship isn't completely up to standard yet, it will be. I have faith in you and your Engineering staff." Yehonathan said with a flustered sigh.
"Well, as long as you have faith," Zekk said, grabbing another tool. "But there are bound to be kinks in the systems."
"Da, da. I understand that there is still much to do. In the mean time though could you please get my terminal up and running? I have much to do and am loosing valuable time."
"Pestering me won't make me work faster," Zekk said, reconnecting the secondary power supply.
"Sorry," Yehonathan muttered out quietly, "I don't like just standing around and not doing anything."
"Well, then go for a walk...take a jog, maybe go poke your head around some place that you don't know normally go...that way you aren't just standing around doing nothing."
"Is that your subtle way to tell me to shut up and leave you alone while you work?"
"Not really, I thought that it was very unsubtle myself," Zekk smiled, tightening another connection.
"You need to work on subtle then. Besides, I have a video conference in 30 minutes that is 'voluntary' which is code for you have to come and see our boring presentation or we're going to shuck you off to a hole in the wall research station studying bacteria from Klingon siliva."
"Well, if its not fixed by then then you can have the terminal in my office, I am sure that you could get operations to transfer over all the information that you need."
Yehonathan smirked slightly. Evidentally the Lieutenant had no idea that Diplomacy could be as secretive as Intelligence. Although he thought about it and no one really thought that Diplomacy was as cloak and dagger as it really is.
"No offense Lt. Alana but I'd prefer to use my own terminal. Some of the information I deal with is of a...delicate nature. I can wait."
"I'm almost done anyways," Zekk said, tightening another connection. He took out his tricorder and scanned the connections again. "There we go, should be working good as never used."
"Blagodarit ty!" Yehonathan said happily. "I appreciate your assistance Chief. I doubt it would be very useful to you but if you ever need the assistance of the Chief Diplomat, all you have to do is ask."
"I'll keep that in mind," Zekk said, gathering his tools. "Now if there
"Now if you don't mind, I'd like to make sure that the terminal really is working properly before my video conference of boredom."
"By all means," Zekk said, getting to his feet. "Just let me know if anything else falls apart."
