...is futile?

Timeline: MD03, 23:00hrs

Mike crawled into bed, darkened the room, and closed his eyes thoughtfully. The Borg. The mere mention of the race sent most peoples' skin crawling. Mike felt more of a morbid curiosity regarding them. They just did what they did. Of course, Mike had never actually encountered the Borg.

Like everyone one else on the senior staff he'd been brushing up on the Borg since the detection of the transponder signal. It was oddly mentioned in some of the reports that the Borg seemed genuinely perplexed regarding the reluctance of the galaxy to be assimilated into the collective. The Borg were brutal, and no mistake, but was there a true malice in their actions? There didn't seem to be. It was just a different sort of morality. And the Federation was built on respecting the cultures of others.

Mike walked through the corridors of the Borg ship. Tubes and conduits were strung on the walls in the ship as if he were walking through the internal guts of a gigantic cybernetic organism. Borg were all around him. Resistance was futile. He was injected with an assimilation tubule. It hurt. His skin crawled but he was not assimilated. He knew he would not be. He was immune. He was immune to the nanoprobe infection. The Borg looked on; faces all around, looking. Mike was apprehensive of being physically attacked, but he would not be assimilated. He couldn't be assimilated because he, too, was Borg. Yet he was not Borg, he was still Dr. Michael Evans. Another injection. The Borg looked on, but Mike was immune. He would not be assimilated. Faces all around; the Borg looked on. The Borg looked on...

Mike sat up with a strangled cry in the dark, panting. Just a dream. He was immune to the Borg. Wait, that couldn't be. How could anyone be "immune" to the Borg. He shook his head and lay down again. Immune to the Borg? Rediculous.
