Unwelcomed Contact

Posted on Sun Jul 3rd, 2011 @ 6:10pm by Lieutenant Thelin ch'Rassa M.D.

Mission: Episode 2.2 - "Resistance"
Location: Guest Quarters
Timeline: Backpost - MD 01

Dr. Thelin ch'Rassa sat quietly on the soft and surprisingly comfortable couch in the guest quarters that had been assigned to him aboard the Pandora. As he took a sip of his Vulcan Spice Tea he reflected on the luck he had encountered when the Pandora's Commanding Officer had offered to transport him to Starbase Forty Two where he would then catch a ride to the USS Gallivant and start his career as their new Chief Medical Officer. Despite his best attempts to clear his mind as the warm, earthy flavored tea washed down his throat the Andorian remained stressed. Stressed about his career and what laid ahead, stressed about missed opportunities and even dark days gone by. Normally he would have been in the holodeck sparring with a friend to relieve the stress but he knew no one aboard the Pandora and sparring against a hologram just didn't feel the same to him when it came to kharakom.

Sighing as he stood up Thelin crossed the room and prepared to read over one of the latest medical journals when a chime and the voice of the ships computer stopped him. "Incoming message from Andoria." The ever so polite and feminine voice alerted him.

Taken aback by the sudden and unexpected incoming message Thelin tensed up knowing it could be only one of a few fellow Andorians contacting him, none of which he was particularly ready to talk to. Sitting down at the small desk in the right hand corner of the quarters he pressed a button and watched as a small screen popped up and revealed the standard Starfleet Emblem. "Computer, open communication channel." The Doctor called out as he crossed his arms in front of him.

"Mother, what can I do for you? Is everything o.k. on Andoria?" Thelin asked in the most serious tone trying to convey it was not the best of times to be contacted.

"Thelin dear not even a hello or I've missed you after two years of no contact? I'm insulted." came the reply from the older long snow whited haired female Andorian on the screen. Pausing only briefly she continued. "Do not even start with this is not a good time for you because I know that is where you are going. Did you know that your mates are waiting for you here on Andoria right now? It takes four to mate Thelin, four! Not three but four! Is your career with Starfleet so important you'd ignore your obligations here to run around in space?"

The normally calm Doctor felt his blood boiling at the unexpected harsh and rude tirade from his seed mother. This was more than he had expected and it hit him hard. So hard in fact his free hand had clenched into a fish and slammed down onto the desk. Pausing for a moment he composed himself and looked over his shoulder as if he was making sure no one had heard him, despite the fact he was alone. Looking back at his view screen he addressed his seed mother. "Please do not attempt to lecture me on the needs of my pre-chosen mates. I believe the Vulcans have always said the needs of the many outweigh the few. My career has saved countless lives and given me the chance to study Haslev-Rahn disease, one of the very genetic diseases that plagues our male population! I will not be returning to Andoria for the mating process Tara and you can tell that to Father as well if you wish. I'm sure that will please him as much as the day I told him I was not joining the Andorian Defense Force." Thelin replied more sternly than he had wanted. In fact his anger had built up so much during the response that after his last sentence he closed the connection and spun around in his chair.

Taking a drink of his tea, Thelin let out a large sigh as he reflected on the all to brief conversation he had just had. Of all his parental figures the one with his seed mother had always been one of the best, mostly because she to was a doctor; even if it was in exobiology and not the medical field. The subject of his three chosen mating partners back on Andoria however had always been a sore subject for him and one he had rebelled against. Sure he understood his people required four to mate and that without him his unit could not mate but who were they to tell him who he was required to mate with in the name of science? And what if the names of the mountains of Andoria he fell in love with someone, even a none Andorian? What then? Shaking his head he pushed aside the thoughts and stood up from his desk. Maybe a holographic sparing partner wasn't so bad right about now.
