Inquiry Verdict Overturned by Eighth Fleet Judge Advocate-General
Posted on Tue Jun 14th, 2011 @ 3:23pm by Vice Admiral Iluvar
In a sudden turn of events, Eighth Fleet Judge Advocate-General Vice Admiral Andrew Hawkins has overturned the verdict handed down by a Board of Inquiry against Captain Iluvar of the USS Pandora.
Our readers may well recall the Board of Inquiry convened at Deep Space Four nearly one year ago under the supervision of Admiral Bullock and at the recommendation of special prosecutor Captain Arnold Mercer which called into question many of the decisions that have been made by former Rear Admiral Iluvar of the USS Pandora over the course of his career. The verdict issued handed down by the Board of Inquiry resulted in the former flag officer being reduced to the rank of captain and relieved of his responsibilities as Task Force Commanding Officer.
Now it seems as if growing concern over the situation beyond the Romulan Neutral Zone combined with the recent defeat of Elyshan forces at both Starbase Gatekeeper and Starbase 386 in recent months prompted the admiralty of the Eighth Fleet to open the matter for official review. Transcripts from the original inquiry as well as supplemental testimony by witnesses were said to have played a significant role in the final ruling of Vice Admiral Andrew Hawkins.
"Our duty is to uphold Federation law and to see that the rights of every individual are protected, including the right to a fair and just hearing," the experienced Judge Advocate-General said of his decision to overturn the former verdict, "Rear Admiral Iluvar is a distinguished officer who has consistently served the greater good before himself. I see no reason why he should not be allowed to continue serving the Eighth Fleet as the capable leader he has demonstrated himself to be."
Others within the Eighth Fleet Command staff clearly shared many of the same feelings as Vice Admiral Hawkins' with regards to the review as well as the ability of Rear Admiral Iluvar to serve in such a capacity as Task Force, as evidenced by the following statement we received from the Office of the Eighth Fleet Chief-of-Staff.
"Vice Admiral Hawkins undertook a major project in reviewing the Inquiry and resultant verdict, which I'd like to thank him for. Obviously we don't like to see errors occur in judgments, but it is important that we correct them if they do occur. I am glad to see Rear Admiral Iluvar reinstated to his former position; he has been a valuable asset to the Fleet and those under his command before and I look forward to looking for him in such a capacity once again," Admiral Olivia Tavez explained when asked about her viewpoint on the situation.
It is unknown at this time whether the Office of the Judge Advocate-General will be pursuing any action against the presiding officers of the Board of Inquiry or the members of the prosecution team. Neither Admiral Tavez nor Vice Admiral Hawkins were willing to comment any further on the matter.
We will endeavor to bring you the most up-to-date information as it becomes available.
