Zekk had departed the bridge as soon as he had heard from Admiral Androski that they were going to be dealing with the Borg. He hadn't had an experience with them himself but both the Federation and the Maran Republic seemed to have several. None of them really ended up with a happy outcome and the last thing he wanted to do was have his pride and joy blown into little pieces before his eyes.
"Gentlemen," Zekk said, looking around at his engineering team. "I have some bad news, it looks like we might be engaging the Borg."
Alistair (PNPC) and Jack looked up at that comment and neither looked to happy. Although, he didn't want to see the person that was actually excited about seeing the Borg. He looked at the two senior most engineers, aside from himself.
"Are we sure?" Alistair finally asked. "Maybe its just a drill."
"Doesn't matter," Zekk said, shaking his head. "We need to take a look at everything that we know about the Borg and then come up with something that the Admiral can use."
"Aside from staying the hell away from them," Alistair said. "I'm not really sure that we can do much against them."
"Everything has a weakness," Zekk said, calling up several files on what used to show the MSDS. "Our job is going to find a way to prevent the Borg from finding our weakness. They have never seen a Legacy class in battle and I don't want them finding our vulnerabilites."
"They're the Borg," Jack snapped. "They always find them."
"Too much of a defeatist attitude," Zekk scolded him. "We've got the best crew in the fleet, I am sure that we can find a way to prevent them from not only figuring our vunerabilities but also a way to make sure that they go crawling back to whatever transwarp conduit they came out of. Let's concentrate on defense first I am sure that Ensign Vosh will want to meet with us later about the offensive part."
"Alright," Alistair said. Zekk looked at the younger man, he looked like he hadn't slept well...although given Alistair's reputation with the ladies he had a feeling that it was something else entirely.
"Modulating our shields will only work for so long," Jack said, tapping a few buttons on the situation table that was in the middle of engineering. "But what about reinforcing them with the deflector dish and installing some phase converters."
"Keep the shields slightly out of phase?" Alistair asked. "That would require an almost obscene amount of power, if we shunted all the battery power from everything else into the deflector and the converters it might work...but that means we would be limiting our offensive capabilities."
"Keep going," Zekk nodded, putting the idea down. "I want to give the admiral as many options as possible."
"If that's the case," Alistair smiled. "Then I have a few ideas...some of them might cause us some minor harm though."
"Better then major harm," Zekk grunted. "Lets get to work people, I want to show the Borg that resistance is NOT futile but oh so costly on their part."
