The console beeped a notification in front of the caitian doctor.
She looked around the room, then hit the button. The screen changed from readings to a video recording.
"Confirm Identity code" The message commanded.
"Lieutenant R'Sera Li Nieth, Omega-rho-rho."
"Confirmed. Message unlocked."
She smiled, yet still a little apprehensive of what was to come. This was the first time she had to open a secured item as such.
"Hi, Kit." The recording started. It was the long lost yet familiar voice of Marcus Rockwell, her former XO and soulmate. Hearing him say that made her lock onto the screen with every bit of her attention. "I wish this was a feed and not a clip. I miss our time together and the feel of your soft fur against my skin. There isn't a day that goes by in this shipboard life where I don't think about our time in Nieth. Our mission is still classified, but I can tell you it is doing well."
"When I was on the Orlando I did not think I would get to a point where I missed that old bucket of bolts. Maybe sometime I will get back over there to you."
She shook her head. "No you won't, Marcus. If only you knew." She said rhetorically.
"If it makes you feel any better, Kit I am not in the direct line of combat." He continued. "Well...for now. It will likely change but I don't want you worrying about that." He stopped suddenly, interrupted by another voice. "Gotta go. Command duty calls. Marh'Lah, R'Sera."
"Marh'Lah, Marcus. Marh'Lah." She responded softly as the screen went blank and then to the starfleet filler page. "I love you too." R'Sera didn't realize how much she had missed his company until the message was over. The emotions welled up to the surface in the form of tears, an unusual response for the felinoid's eyes. She slowly set her elbows on the desk edge and rested her head in the hands to mull it over.
